Our Vision

African Agriculture is at a turning point.

The combination of strong demand growth, sustained economic growth, higher global agricultural prices, and an improved policy environment has set the ground for the most conducive conditions for agricultural growth. African countries have been embracing the need to put agriculture at the center of their long term growth strategy in line with food security, improved nutrition and poverty reduction.

Most of the population in our regions works in agriculture despite low return on investment compared to other sectors of the economy.

Farming is based on traditional agriculture and production systems. Performance of the farms are not always improving and the food security of rural families remains precarious.

Agriculture challenges.

The challenge agriculture is facing is to increase profitability for agricultural workers by improving productivity. Agriculture plays a key role in ensuring food self-sufficiency of households, especially given the importance of on-farm consumption and the role of local markets in feeding urban populations.

There are major differences among countries.

This heterogeneity is both a strength and weakness when it comes to promoting efficient regional agriculture. The strength lies in the complementarity of ecosystems and agro-ecological regions in terms of agricultural production. The weakness has to do with constraints on natural and human resources. Promoting regional agriculture therefore depends on identifying the region’s potential.

A combination of old and new challenges.

At the same time, a combination of old and new challenges ranging from climate change to increased price volatility threaten the ability of West African countries to seize these opportunities and pushed us to look for answers in line with the objectives and obstacles faced by the growers.

We develop vegetable farming solutions, services and expertise through our network of partners, in order to give every farmer the possibility to develop a long term sustainable business.

Berdura has therefore the ambition to help farmers adapt to these new challenges by supporting them with new services, developing new ways of ensuring effectiveness, responsibility and contributing to the most suitable solutions and tools as a solid base for growth.
